Passport to normality? EU leaders plot path out of pandemic
Issued on:
The new normal in Europe includes virtual summits where the 27 leaders stay behind a screen at home to review their common approach to the Covid-19 pandemic. France's president is scheduled to speak and field questions. We cross live to Emmanuel Macron's remarks as leaders come under pressure for a slow rollout of the vaccine after the 27 adopted the ambitious approach of ordering their jabs in bulk.
They're also facing criticism for failing to agree on the right balance for containing virulent new strains of the coronavirus: some nations are shutting borders without asking, while others are opting for localised lockdowns, each with separate rules on travel.
Speaking of travel, what to make of vaccine passports, which are now a thing in Israel and getting a second look in the UK as that former EU member looks to ease lockdown?
